Visit a North Sacramento Walk-In Clinic After a Day in a Cactus Show

Every year, the Sacramento Cactus & Succulent Society holds a Cactus & Succulent Show in order to promote better understanding and care of succulent plants through fun and educational activities. It has become a tradition that dates back to the organization’s original inception in October 1960, and has brought in Succulent lovers from across the country year in and year out. If you’re planning to attend the 56th iteration of the show, you should include a visit to a North Sacramento walk-in clinic in your plans.

Why You Need Care After Handling Cacti and Succulents

Cactuses are intriguing to look at, but the many needle-like protrusions from its surface are meant to discourage natural predators from even getting close. If you’re attending a show where many of these cacti are on display, it is possible to catch a prick or two. One is easy to handle, but several of them may require going to a North Sacramento urgent care facility, where they can help remove the fine spines properly.

Getting pricked by a cactus spine is actually the least inconvenient incident that could befall if you aren’t careful around succulents. There are succulents like the Candelilla and Jade that have sap that can irritate the skin. Other succulents like agave and aloe vera can cause allergic reactions on a person’s skin, which tend to catch people off-guard because aloe vera is known for being used as treatment for dry skin and burns. It’s common for people to try it out on their skin, only to find out that they have an allergic reaction to the plant. There’s even a succulent called the Pencil Plant that has a thick sap that can temporarily impair vision.

Why You Need Urgent Care

If you find yourself on the receiving end of a succulent’s natural protection, either by accident or carelessness, it is best to seek urgent care. The needle pricks and allergic reactions you’ll get are not life-threatening and don’t pose any long-term risks, but they can be very painful and will prevent you from enjoying the Cactus & Succulent Society’s event. An urgent care facility should be easy to reach, and treatment will only take minutes so you can get back to the event and continue to learn and appreciate these intriguing plant specimens.
